There are some major differences such as the cam follower, the high-pressure fuel pump HPFP and the timing chain vs. As well as some minor differences such as the location of the intake, dipstick, oil filler cap and the oil filter housing.

With the FSI motor, the cam follower is flat. A common problem with the flat cam follower is that they get worn down and if not routinely check and replaced, it can cause severe damage to the HPFP. For every four combustion cycles, two large volume pressurizations occur. However with the roller cam follower, only four small pressurizations occur for every four combustion cycles. This is because there is less friction occurring causing less wear and tear on the follower.
It is recommended that every 10, miles you take out the cam follower on your FSI motor and check the wear. It is actuated by a special lobe on the intake camshaft.
It is on the driver side on top. However this HPFP is actuated by a special 4-sided camshaft lobe that is located on the exhaust camshaft. It controls the movement of the valves and pistons inside the cylinders. The FSI motor comes with a timing belt. This belt snakes through a series of pulleys and has mechanical or self-contained hydraulic timing tensioners to keep the proper tension on the belt throughout the entire rpm range.
The longevity of a timing belt is going to less compared to a timing chain. When doing maintenance and replacing the timing belt, be sure to replace the tensioners and pulleys at the same time. When the TSI motor was made they saw the flaws in the timing belt design, this is why they went with a timing chain.
Much like timing belts, timing chains have tensioners that keep the timing chain from flopping around. The difference is that the timing chains tensioners are controlled with the engines oil pressure. As you can imagine, maintaining the oil pressure level is important, as if it drops too low, the pressure of the chain will lower causing the motors timing to become extremely erratic.

I dont think anyone has anything for that car yet. I called vw last week and their sales people werent even aware that the gti's they were getting in had a different engine in it.
At waterfest all the vendors were asking if my gti had a tsi in it because they said they had nothing for it yet. APR said they couldnt "crack" the code for ecu tuning either. So i was talking to a buddy of mine and he has a mk5 gti with a fsi motor and he told me he had to get s3 injectors and a hpfp for him to switch over to k My question is on the mk6 gti with the tsi engine you dont have to upgrade those things when going ko4 right?
I was also told he would prolly be around hp after hes done but the mk6 has like hp with k04 without those upgrades so whats the big difference? Nu credem ca trebuie sa spunem ca aceste 3 motorizari sunt pe benzina si ca vin de la grupul VAG. FSI a adus un nou sistem de alimentare pe piata, daca pana la FSI carburantul era pulverizat in galeria de admisie, noua tehnologie a venit cu un sistem care pulverizeaza benzina direct in camera de ardere.
Daca va plac cifrele sau doar sunteti curiosi, la un kilogram de benzina injectata se ard 14,7 kg de aer sau echivalentul a de litri. Toate astea vin cu un dezavantaj totusi.
La motoarele conventionale la 1 litru de benzina se adauga mult mai putin aer, FSI imbunatatind amestecul a "reusit" si sa creasca emisiile de carbon considerabil. Datorita amestecului bogat in aer si scazut in carburant, tehnologia FSI a reusit sa rezolve o problema mare a vechilor motoare turbo.
Vechile masini cu tehnologie turbo sufereau de aprinderi spontane ale benzinei in interiorul cilindrului, cu mult inainte ca aceasta aprindere sa fie necesara conform parametrilor de functionare ai motorului. Turbina "reusea" sa incalzeasca foarte tare aerul si sa creeze puncte fierbinti in interiorul cilindrului care aprindeau spontan si total necontrolabil benzina. O data cu aparitia TFSI-ului acest fenomen a disparut. TFSI-ul a adus pe piata un motor cu un raport mare de compresie, cu o eficienta termodinamica foarte mare si cu un consum redus de carburant.
Este un motor pe benzina cu injectie directa, mai exact combustibilul este pulverizat direct in camerle de combustie. Aceasta tehnologie este mai buna din punct de vedere termodinamic si imbunatateste eficienta motorului. Motoarele FSI imbunatatesc performanta motorului si au o dinamica mai buna.
Citeste si despre: motor pe benzina sau motor pe motorina. Problema se pare ca se raporteaza la inelele pistonului care permit micilor cantitati de ulei sa curga in cilindri, aceste cantitati de ulei ard si astfel vom avea un consum mai mare de ulei. Soferii observand acest lucru atunci cand in bordul masinii le apare martorul de nivel al uleiului. Cand martorul indica faptul ca trebuie sa completati nivelul de ulei, nu trebuie sa opriti imediat, dar in scurt timp va fi nevoie sa adaugati ulei motorului.
Ce motoare sunt afectate? Motoarele 2. Motoarele TSI sunt motoarele ce echipeaza majoritatea vehiculelor Vw fabricate intre anii si Motoarele TSI sunt si ele destul de problematice, avand in principal probleme la nivelul bujiilor dar si la bobina de inductie. Multi soferi s-au plans ca ar fi avut probleme cu galeria de admisie si cu pompa de combustibil.
Diferenta dintre aceste motoare este una simpla, ambele functioneaza pe acelasi principiul doar ca motoarele TSI echipeaza modelele de la VW, in timp ce motoarele TFSI echipeaza modelele de la Audi.
Motorul MPI are o injectie multipunct, fata de motoarele TSI care au o injectie directa, la motoarele MPI benzina este aspirata din rezervor de catre o pompa electrica si prin rampa de injectie este transmisa la injectoare, motoarele FSI au o galerie de admisie diferita fata de motoarele MPI.

TSI question. Location Orlando, FL. I've been doing my fair share of research around the forums and can't find anything with any definitive info Or opinions for that matter So the question is, should this scare me away from buying an 'early'08 GTI with around 40kk on it? Or are the problems overly exaggerated? Or should I stick with the TSI engines on the late'08's and up? Any advice would be appreciated ThumbThumbs Banned.

Location Miss, Can Ride Rabbit. Yeah go TSI, for the extra little bit right now, it will go a long awy. I appreciate it guys, yeah I suppose we'll have to see how everything goes here, looking at an '07 Fahrenheit and maybe a late '08 CW. But again, we'll see. Trying to get out from under this damned Eclipse first, that will determine how much I end up being able to spend on the new ride. I have 90km on the clock, FSI and still kicking.
But in all honesty its probably a ticking expensive time bomb. TSI was designed to clean up our act.
